sacrarium (sitting amongst flowers)

This was made Ceramic Suro, Artist Residency, Guadalajara Mexico, I worked with the project manager to create the project, I was an invited artist and the project cost was covered by the studio (shipping and transportation of the work was on me). I worked successfully with the project manager to create my plans, the ceramic shop manager to manage my supplies, the ceramic colour wizard to have colour made and the industrial firing factory to successfully have the tiles fired. I worked successfully with several stake holders and fabricators to execute this project. The work offers the viewer a moment of calm—like a visual breath—a frequency placeholder, reminding the viewer of a mutual overlapping reality, connected through beauty and intelligence in the natural world. I wanted to take my grid paintings which are about the experience of place and meditating on place, and flowers and collecting colours and Synesthesia, the colours in Sacrarium are unique to my time Guadalajara. I was inspired by a class I took with Dmitry Vilensky of Chto Delat https://chtodelat.org/category/z146-art-projects/c227-dmitry-vilensky/ to think about and make work that was on a monumental scale, I took the course with Dmitry with the Alternative Art School online. A Sacrarium is place for sacred objects, and water. I think about places like this in Churches, the Temple of Apollo and the Vestal Virgins for example, water and washing sacred objects is a sacred practice. In my minds eye this piece would be installed among flowers outdoors.
