FROM WITHIN (living)
My largest in this series documenting colours of the land and flowers around me, in my walks and quiet hikes and my sit and thinks during my two weeks at Ghost Ranch, Abiquiu New Mexico (August 2025) I work in repetition and meditative painting/colour as emotion painting place- that really draws me in. It was a sight the way light sings in the mountains of New Mexico at 6,500 feet (1,981 meters), walking around in the footsteps of a painter I admire greatly Georgia O’Keeffe (whose letters with Maria Chabot I have certainly read). This artist residency was extremely satisfying as a painter in my life- who works in colour a lot, it was so remote that behind my casita was like 20k acres of nature and wonderful dark skies. Life there suited my liminal watercolour paintings practice, I am leaning into that calming space in between where time feels meaningless/eternal, I will be returning to New Mexico to attend CodaSummit, where I received a scholarship to attend this fall.
The land here at Ghost Ranch is specifically the ancestral homelands of the peoples who today are located in but not limited to Nambe, Ohkay Owingeh, Picuris, Pojoaque, San Ildefonso, Santa Clara, Taos, Tesuque, and at nearby reservations, which include Jicarilla Apache, Navajo Nation, and Southern Ute as well as the lands of the Genízaro. from the ghost ranch website.
