I wanted to make public art, I wanted to see if my series of works that are based on colour studies and grid work could be turned into an object that could be installed as public art (I had just finished a course taught by Dmitry Vilensky about public art between mission and commission) I made this work during a two week artist residency @ceramicasuro in August 2024, the base colours in my pallette were mixed in house in Guadalajara and were extremely unique and made on the premises. My painting practice is very much centered around colours- and mixing colours and conveying emotions with colours and painted ea tile by hand, imbuing the tiles like a portend to hold place and experience. I recently learned about geo psychology how place affects who we are, this and my lucid dreaming practice are important to me, like I shared I was making this piece the grid is an extension of my grid work I paint in watercolour paintings, the place and the colours express my state of being in a place and time. For me the flowers nature has reinvented itself over and over again, sometimes I meditate on what other flowers have been invented on other planets and what colors could be there and flowers across the globe that I have yet to sit with in person, the extension of consciousness. I have a meditation practice that supports my painting practice, the older I get the less siloed by life as become. I want my work offer a moment of calm—like a visual breath—reminding us that we are part of something larger, connected through beauty and intelligence in the natural world.

extended: My background in Public Art is loosely as follows- at 20 years of age I read through many boxes of condolence letters sent to the US Consulate in Munich Germany regarding September 11, 2001 and made my first Public Art display for the US Consulate. Living in Munich Germany (Bavaria) is where I first learned there are two kinds of public artworks, ones to celebrate and works to never forget, I walked past the White Rose Memorial Monument almost daily and as a university student myself it gave me a lot to think on. I then wrote two very well researched papers on Public Funding for the Arts at bachelors and graduate school level, because the spectrum of opinion fascinates me. I also took several internships (including at the Smithsonian level) because I wanted to know more about public art and work with artists who made public artworks. I briefly helped artists with their public works at art fairs. The thing is I have spent too much of my meager expendable income s traveling around the world to look at public are and two years ago in 2024 I took a class with Dmitry Vilensky about the space between mission and commission in public art. That brings me to the work posted above when I had the good fortune of being a guest artist at @ceramicasuro I wanted to try my hand at making a work of my art that would suit the public artwork definition.
